Our Board Members

  • Todd Gillespie - President

    (He/Him/His) moved to Sparta ten years ago and he and his partner, Prash, split time between Sparta and New York City. They adopted Ella, a rescued Great Pyrenees mix, nine years ago and are currently in the process of adopting another Great Pyr rescue. Todd grew up in Central Illinois and attended college in Connecticut, where he graduated with a degree in History. Todd is currently a Director of People & Organization (HR) for Mars, Inc.

  • Bob Gasper - Vice President

    (He/Him/His) is a resident of Sparta, NJ. He met his husband 35 Years ago at Penn State, they adopted twins in 2000, and they currently have two Labradoodles— Scout & Lil’ PupR. Bob holds a degree in theater. He worked as a Stage Manager and Director on Broadway, in Chicago and at several Universities. He is currently office manager at Hamburg Pediatrics.

  • Damaris Lira - Treasurer

    (she/her/ella) lives in Sussex Boro and is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. She is a new member of PFLAG Sussex County in 2023 and also sits on the board for Sussex County Pride - the first LGBTQ+ advocacy group in Sussex County that believes that action on a local level as an important component to empowering members of the LGBTQ+ community. Damaris is married to her husband Johnny and they have 2 dogs, Nacho and Kiki. She has a been a paralegal for over 20 years and loves spending time volunteering and doing her best to leave this world better than she found it.

  • Colleen LePera - Secretary

    (she/her) lives in Andover and is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. She has been a member of PFLAG Sussex County since 2022. Colleen is married to her husband Ryan and they have one son and 2 dogs. She worked at a local auto shop for over 10 years before becoming a stay at home mom to homeschool her son.

  • Shawn Carroll

    (he/him) is a queer transgendered man who grew up in Vernon and currently lives in Sparta. He works as a pediatric nurse and enjoys gardening, hiking, traveling and crafting. He lives with his husband and young twins.

  • Pat Schutz

    (she/hers), an LBGTQ+ ally, has been married to Bob for 53 years. Together they raised 3 kids, have 8 grandkids and a poorly behaved dog named Barney. Pat owned and ran a gymnastics school for 37 years and currently serves as Lay Leader (which means she is on way too many committees) at Sparta United Methodist Church, a Reconciling Church (Methodist word for LGBTQ+ loving church).

  • Sue Harris

    has lived with her beloved Jill in Andover, NJ, since 2018. Butterscotch the Guinea Pig joined them in January of 2019. She is a cashier at the ShopRite in Newton, NJ.

    Sue is an award winning gay activist, who enjoys books, bicycling, roller coasters, Star Trek, math puzzles, Lego, and Pokemon Go.

  • Anne O'Dair

    (she/her) lives in Sparta, and is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. She joined PFLAG in the spring of 2023. Anne is married to her husband Tim, and they have 2 children, Finn and Sam, who is a transgender man, and 2 rescue Siberian Huskies, Odin and Kemah. Anne is a chiropractor, and has been in private practice in Sparta for 25 years.

  • Scott Noel

    (He/Him/His) moved to Sparta twelve years ago with his extraordinary wife, Kim, and three wonderful kids. In that time two of those kids have graduated high school, one has started high school, and we have rescued two goofy little dogs. Scott grew up in Oregon and California. He received a BA in History from UCLA and an MBA from Boston University. Scott has worked for Ford Motor Company for almost three decades and currently serves as the Motorcraft Market Representation Manager.

  • Sandy Pender

    (She/Her) Grew up in Sparta and still resides in Sussex County. I graduated from the University of New Hampshire and work at a local non profit focused on substance use prevention and recovery. I am an LGBTQ+ ally and am so happy to have joined the PFLAG community. As a parent of a transgender child, I have found a wealth of support, education, and advocacy through PFLAG. My husband Tom and I have been married for 27 years and have 2 grown children, Kai and Zach, and a black lab named Richard. I enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, and skiing with my family. I also enjoy doing therapy work with Richard, gardening, and reading (especially banned books).
